One of the most complete hikes you can do in Madeira Island. Start by walking along the path used by the locals to bring their produce from the north to the markets in the south of the island. There you can see a mix of endemic and indigenous vegetation, as well as some exotic species introduced on the island. When you reach Espigão, be dazzled by the view to Ponta de São Lourenço, and the different rock layers all the way down to the sea. From Boca do Risco go down towards Levada do Caniçal and walk along it to finish this walk.

Bring a waterproof jacket, comfortable hiking shoes, food, water, hat, cap or bonnet and a flashlight.
